50th Anniversary
The College of Engineering at Southern University will celebrate its 50th anniversary on Nov. 3, 2006, with a series of events, including tours, presentations, and an awards dinner. The celebration will be held in conjunction with the University's homecoming, Council of Visitors Annual Meeting, and the unveiling of the Pratt & Whitney Rocket Engine Display. Although engineering courses have been offered on campus since 1943, the College of Engineering was formally established in 1956, under Dean Henry Louis Thurman. The College now boasts more than five thousand living alumni, working throughout the world and many of whom have remained in the state of Louisiana to work and live.
The College's graduates have traveled various paths from running some of the largest corporations in the world to teaching. Many continue to practice engineering, while others have used their engineering backgrounds as a basis for moving into other fields.
We expect a record number of participants to attend this historic event.
