Mission Statement
The mission of the Southern University Women’s Initiative Project Center is three-fold:
Collaborative Learning
The Women’s Initiative Project Center exists within an educational institution and is consequently, charged with providing students with a quality educational experience. The WIPC is committed to engaging in collaborative learning by: (a) deliberately and pro-actively supporting the learning, which occurs in the classroom, and (b) providing students with alternative educational experiences.
Community Development
As a resource center on campus, the Women's Initiative Project Center seeks to promote the concept of community by engaging in activities, which promote the idea of the common good. The WIPC fosters collective relationships with campus and community agencies that increase awareness of Physical & Mental Health, Educational and Economic Development, and Democratic Leadership.
Social Justice
The Women's Initiative Project Center is a resource on the Southern University Baton Rouge campus where needs and interests specific to female students are acknowledged and addressed. In addition to being knowledgeable about gender-relevant issues, the staff will actively strive to confront not only the sexism, but also racism, ethnocentrism, and violence, which are adverse both to our mission of promoting social justice and to the mission of the broader institution as a whole.
