About Civil Engineering

Civil engineering is the profession that applies knowledge of mathematical and physical sciences gained by study, experience, and practice to solve the problems of the world community.

Civil engineers are trained to design, build, and maintain transportation systems such as highways, railroads, bridges, transit systems, airport, navigable waterways, and traffic control networks; buildings such as skyscrapers, sports stadiums, parking garages, and warehouses; water resources systems such as dams and aqueducts; and environmental systems such as water and wastewater treatment, landfills, and remediation of hazardous and radioactive wastes.

There are other areas of civil engineering as well.  For more information, visit www.discoverengineering.org.
