After a disappointing 2008 SWAC tournament, the Southern University Jaguars will look to try and reverse last season's disappointments, and return to the top of the Southwestern Athletic Conference this season. With most of the starters returning, the experienced Jaguar squad is very optimistic about the 2009 season. The Jaguars will return to California, hoping to start the season on a high note with tough match-ups against San Diego, San Diego State, and Bethune-Cookman in the 2nd Annual MLB Urban Invitational. The Jaguars won the SWAC West but fell short of the SWAC championship played at Lee-Hines Field on SU's campus.
Plagued by injury throughout the season, the Jaguars progress was slowed as they finished the year with a 28-18 record. The Jaguars had a packed schedule last season facing in-state power houses LSU, UNO, and Tulane. This year the Jaguars will add another in-state powerhouse with Louisiana-Lafayette coming onto to their schedule.
The Southern University Jaguars and Jaguar Nation are looking forward to a successful season. |
