UNIFORM TESTING PROCEDURES
SECRETARIAL/CLERICAL POSITIONS
1. Tests are administered only when a vacancy has been approved to be filled, or as otherwise directed by the Director of the Office of Human Resources.
2. The three-phase testing procedure begins in Phase One with a multi-part computerized testing program which contains a module for assessing skills in typing speed. The computerized program continues in Phase Two with editing and formatting knowledge, language arts and alphabetical records management. In order to assess the ability of applicants to compose meeting minutes, Phase Three consists of transcribing minutes for a mock committee hearing, following a provided format and example.
3. Phase One requires applicants to demonstrate a typing speed of no less than 60 WPM net, with no more than 8 errors. (For example, an applicant might type 68 words per minute and have 8 errors and still have attained the 60 WPM requirement. However, 69 WPM with 9 errors would not be an acceptable score.)
4. Phase One allows an applicant 3 opportunities to attain the necessary score. Applicants may proceed to Phase Two only after having successfully completed Phase One with an acceptable score.
5. The computerized scoring of Phase Two must be at least 80% in each of the modules to be acceptable. Applicants may proceed to Phase Three only after having successfully completed Phase Two with acceptable scores.
6. Phase Three assesses the ability of applicants to compose minutes of meetings from a recording, following a provided format and example.
7. Disqualification and Re-Testing. An applicant may be rescheduled for another testing appointment after a waiting period of one month and upon the approval of the Director of the Office of Human Resources. If the applicant is not successful in achieving the required scores at the second testing appointment, they may not be rescheduled until after another waiting period of six months and upon the approval of the Director of the Office of Human Resources.
8. Time Allotments. Each of the three phases will require different amounts of time, and may vary with each applicant. The times below will indicate averages and maximum allowable times.

9. Scoring. Phases One and Two are automatically scored by the computer. However, Phase Three will be reviewed and assessed by the Director of the Office of Human Resources within 2 days after completion of the test. The applications, resumes and tests of successful applicants will then be forwarded to the supervisor of the division wherein the vacancy has been approved to be filled. The supervisor will contact successful applicants to discuss the possible scheduling of an interview.
10. Retention of Test Scores. Applicant tests and scores will be maintained on file with the Office of Human Resources for consideration for any approved vacancies for a period of 1 year. After that time has expired, it will be necessary for applicants to re-test in order to be considered for any vacancies.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
Each corps member is assigned to a team during their “city year.” Teams work on one or more

service may vary based on the needs of a site or a community.
In general, City Year service projects fall into five categories:

School Partnerships:
You will serve as a tutor and mentor, coordinate extracurricular activities,
and encourage service and leadership opportunities for the student body. By facilitating service
and leadership opportunities, you become an integral part of the students' school experience.
After-School and Out-of-School Programs: You will provide academic support and mentoring in
educational after-school and out-of-school programs. One of the most popular extracurricular
initiatives is Camp City Year, a structured full-day, school-based learning and recreation
program for young students held during winter and spring vacations.
II. Youth Leadership Corps:
Corps members serving on Youth Corps teams lead elementary,
middle, and high school-aged students through social issues curricula that combine teamwork
and community service. As a member of one of these teams, you will recruit youth participants
and volunteers, plan and lead service projects, and implement lesson plans. You will become a
powerful mentor, challenging young people to be involved citizens who help solve their
communities’ issues.
III. Volunteer Engagement:
You will recruit and engage volunteers of all ages in service, developing
onetime service project opportunities and creating on-going volunteer opportunities.
Physical Service: Throughout the year, teams of corps members organize and carry out service
projects in the communities they serve. About once a month, you will join your teammates in a
day-long physical service project, such as turning a vacant lot into a community garden or
painting murals to revitalize neighborhoods.

Our Management Trainee program is a two-year training program designed to provide a strong knowledge of all aspects of our business. This program combines a series of rotations in various departments and classroom seminars. The goal of the program is to prepare the individual to be ready to assume the responsibilities of a General Manager within 5 to 7 years after completing our MT program.
