writing

public policy
Interns also participate in a seminar sponsored by The Wilberforce Forum, the research and worldview arm of Prison Fellowship.
About Prison Fellowship
Prison Fellowship is a Christian ministry headquartered in Lansdowne, Virginia, a suburb of the Nation's Capital. Founded by Chuck Colson in 1976 to assist the Christian Church in their ministry to prisoner, ex-prisoners and their families, we focus on three things:
Fellowshipping with Jesus, including personal discipleship, equipping churches and volunteers for service, Breakpoint radio ministry and Christian publications and worldview issues
Visiting Prisoners, including training volunteers for prison ministry, publications for prisoners and a prisoner pen pal program.
Welcoming Children, including Angel Tree Christmas, Camping and Mentoring Programs all designed for prisoners' children.
Our National Office provides creative services, financial, IT and administrative support for over 30 field offices throughout the United States. Together with our field staff, churches and volunteers, we serve in many capacities to make our vision a reality. Prison Fellowship's President is former Virginia Attorney General, Mark Earley, who meets with the interns and staff for fellowship.
Benefits of the Program
Working for Prison Fellowship can be a rewarding and maturing experience as students gain a Christian perspective on important issues of our time. Academically there are many benefits. These include the opportunity to:
Obtain work experience in their field of study.
Develop relationships with professionals in their field of interest.
Develop work habits and decision-making skills in a professional work setting.
Gain confidence in applying academic learning to the workplace.
Reinforce career decisions.
Work in our field offices; this allows students to have hands-on ministry experience and prepare to bring programs back to their sending colleges. (specific to field interns)
Placement of Interns
Prospective interns are interviewed over the telephone and selection is made based on the student best prepared and suitable for the position. Once selected, we work with any students who may have school requirements that must be fulfilled, along with a discussion of their own goals for their summer experience. Prior to starting, students will have the opportunity to interact with their supervisor and Human Resources to establish the parameters of position, confirming the following information:
The projected responsibilities to be completed by the intern.
The duration of the internship.
The hours to be worked during the internship.
The educational requirements associated with the position.
The amount of compensation, based on $6.15 per hour.
Supervision and Evaluations
Our goals include planning work activities that focus on projects related to the interests of the student. Their summer experience is viewed as an extension of the student's academic program. As such their supervisor will focus on opportunities that integrate the student's academic experience in the workplace. Supervisors meet with the students to provide direction and feedback throughout the summer. In addition, we complete any formal evaluations required by the school. Upon completion of the internship, the supervisor evaluates the student and students also complete an evaluation of their supervisor and overall internship experience. Lodging
Although most interns already have local housing, there is housing available for a limited number of students on a first come, first served basis through a host family program where the students are matched with families in the Northern Virginia area for our National Office internship opportunities. If selected for participation in the host family program, intern would provide host family with a $50/week stipend covering housing, utilities, and some meal expenses. An agreement between the intern and the family will itemize any specific arrangements as well.
Candidates for field opportunities are normally selected based on their skills and interests as well as their proximity to our local field offices. Worldview Seminar
As part of the program, students participate in a seminar, sponsored by The Wilberforce Forum, (www.wilberforce.org) based on the writings of Chuck Colson and other world view thinkers. This seminar helps teach students how to integrate a biblical worldview into all spheres of their lives—at school, at home, and in their culture.
Activities
National Office interns informally gather together throughout the summer for social activities during the week and weekends and often visit Washington, D.C as well. Students also attend staff meetings, ministry gatherings, and meet with leaders from the various ministry divisions. There are activities and events that are required for all interns to attend to include Intern Devotions, special guest speakers, and participate in a local prison visit.
Applying for the Program
Applicants for the program should have completed at least one year of college and be enrolled for the fall semester, or have graduated in May. Rising college freshman may also be considered based on academic preparation gained through advanced studies. Prospective interns may apply by sending their resume to internresumes@pfm.org.

The Federal Aviation Association is taking applications for air traffic controller school. We all have kids and know kids in the right age group (under 31) and with some effort they could reach a salary of over $100,000 with benefits in about 3 years. You need only a high school diploma to apply and credit is given for college on the exam.
They need to go to faa.gov (http://www.faa.gov/jobs/job_opportunities/airtraffic_controllers/) for details and to fill out the application imme diately - even if they don't know if they'd want to attend immediately - it's the federal government and it may take them months to call. The key is to apply NOW.
There will be a lot of retirements coming up rather quickly and they need to line up training to accommodate these openings. It's my understanding that the FAA rarely has an open application such as this and that the jobs are coveted. My friends daughter is 28 years old and is well into 3 figures and has plenty of time for travel/recreation and has started another career on the side.
This is a great opportunity and it should be noted that choosing a site like Anchorage or Indianapolis to train is a likely acceptance into the training program - after-which you can transfer anywhere in the country that has a tower.
I hope that this is timely information for your daughter/son or anyone else who may find it useful.
Company Overview:
As one of America’s oldest brewers, Miller Brewing Company continues the commitment of founder Frederick J. Miller to brew “confoundedly good beers” with “uncompromising quality.” Through more than 150 years of innovation and brewing excellence, Miller has built a broad portfolio of award-winning beers that capture approximately 18 percent of the U.S. beer market.
Miller beers have won 94 medals – more than twice as many as its major competitors – at the biannual World Beer Cup and annual Great American Beer Fest since 1996, when the World Beer Cup debuted. Miller’s flagship brand, Miller Lite, is the great tasting, less filling beer that defined the American light beer category in 1975. The company also brews smooth, golden rich Miller Genuine Draft using a unique cold-filtering process that Miller introduced in 1985. Miller's oldest brew is Miller High Life, the champagne of beers. Miller imports Peroni Nastro Azzurro, Pilsner Urquell and Foster's, and it offers regional craft brews from the Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Company and the Blitz-Weinhard Brewing Company. Near-premium beers include Milwaukee's Best Light, Steel Reserve, Olde English 800, Mickey's Malt Liquor, Icehouse and Sharp's, a non-alcohol brew. Miller also offers the Sparks line of caffeinated alcohol beverages.
Position Overview:
You will develop and display your technical and leadership skills during an 18-month training program in which you will be exposed to the entire brewery value chain (including supply chain, brewing, quality, utilities, packaging and distribution). Upon successfully completing the 18-month training program you will be placed into either a technical or leadership role within one of our 6 domestic breweries.
