Non-Masters Alternative Certification

COE - Office of Academic & Student Affairs - Alternative Certification

 

  • Designed for candidates who may not elect participation in or be eligible for certification under either the Master’s Degree or Practitioner Teacher alternate certification programs. The program may also be accessible in some areas of the state in which the other alternate certification programs are not available.
  • Offers certification in Grades PK-3, 1-5, 4-8, 6-12, All-level K-12 (health and physical education), Mild/Moderate.
  • If employed in the schools while pursuing program requirements, a candidate can obtain a Practitioner License 2 (PL2). The PL2 is valid for one school year and may be renewed annually up to three years. The candidate must remain enrolled in the state-approved Non-Master’s/Certification-Only Alternate Program and fulfill a minimum of nine (9) semester hours of coursework per year (to the extent that required semester hours remain in the program to be completed).
  • Total Hours in the Program—24 to 33 hours
