Author Guidelines
Manuscript
Preparation
Authors are to prepare their manuscripts following the style recommendations
in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association
(2001, 5th ed.), with two exceptions for artwork (see below). For quantitative and qualitative studies, authors must
carefully describe the methodology used (e.g., selection of
participants, research design and analyses, setting, and instruments). Where appropriate, authors should take advantage
of the interactive capabilities of the Internet and hyperlink text to
Web sites to support content and expand the resources for the reader.
Manuscripts are to be double-spaced and have one-inch
margins (2.54 cm); the Arial (12-point) font is to be used to prepare
text. Artwork (e.g., tables and figures) is to be embedded within
the text. Table titles/headings are to be placed at the top of the
tables (centered), and figure captions/titles are to be placed below the
figures (aligned left). Tables and figures are to be developed
using appropriate alignment and single- and doubling spacing (i.e., as
they are to appear when published on-line).
Authors are responsible for all statements in their manuscripts
and for obtaining permission from copyright owners to use quotes of
500 words or more and to adapt or reprint published tables, figures,
and other works.
Manuscript Format and
Length
Authors are to consider the following format and length guidelines when
preparing their manuscripts: (a) General Articles – the manuscript should
include a title page, abstract, body, reference section, and supporting
artwork if needed (e.g., tables and figures). Length should be
appropriate to the topic or focus of the work; (b) Research Articles
and Reports
– the manuscript should include a title page, abstract, body,
reference section, and supporting artwork if needed (e.g., tables and
figures). The length of research articles should be
appropriate to the topic or focus of the work. Reports should be no longer than
10 pages. Where appropriate, authors are to provide validity and
reliability data for instruments, inferential statistical concepts
(e.g., assumptions, effect size), and confidence intervals; (c) Best Practices - the manuscript should include a
title page, abstract, body, reference section, and supporting artwork if
needed (e.g., tables and figures). The body of the manuscript
should be no longer than 15 pages; (d) Poster Sessions - the
manuscript should include a title page, abstract, appropriate poster
session pages, and artwork if needed (e.g., tables and figures). Length
should be appropriate to the topic or focus of the work; and (e) Book
Reviews – the book selected for review should be published by a
reputable publisher during the past two or three years. The review
should provide a general description of the book (e.g., author[s],
title, publisher, date, ISBN, etc.) and its purpose, organization,
strengths, and weaknesses. The review should end with an
evaluation/summary and is to be no longer than 2000 words.
Submission of
Manuscript
Authors are to submit their manuscripts to the editor electronically.
The digital copy can be sent on a 3.5 diskette, compact disc, or via e-mail attachment (Microsoft
Word rich text format). In the cover letter or e-mail, authors are to state the
type of manuscript submitted (e.g., general article, research article
or report,
best practice description, poster session, or book review) and that
their manuscript has neither been published in another journal nor is
under review for publication elsewhere. Digital manuscripts
are to be sent to Jimmy D. Lindsey, Ph.D., Editor, E-Journal of Teaching
and Learning in Diverse Settings, P. O. Box 11241, Southern University
– Baton Rouge, Baton Rouge, LA 70813-1241, USA; e-mail address Jimmy_Lindsey@CXS.SUBR.Edu.
Query
Authors may query the editor about possible manuscript topics with
a 250-word abstract submitted by e-mail.
