I want to thank
you for accessing the Web site for the E-Journal of Teaching and
Learning in Diverse Settings. The purpose of our digital
publication is to serve as a scholarly source for articles (general and
data-based), brief research reports, best practice descriptions, poster
sessions, and book reviews that focus on issues important to
professionals and other stakeholders concerned with the education of
children, youths, and adults in inclusive and culturally and
linguistically diverse classrooms and clinical settings.
The published
works are available in html and PDF formats, are paginated by volume
(see page numbers in PDF files), and can be used within copyright
laws.

Web
Site Problems in Recent Weeks
I want
to express my sincere apologies to those of you who visited this Web
site during the past few weeks and were inconvenienced by pages that
would not display or works that could not be accessed. At this
point in time, we do not know what specifically caused the
problems. Efforts are being taken to ensure that the Web site does
not crash in the future.
Volume
1 (Issues 1 and 2) and Volume 2 (Issue 1): On-Line
Volume
I, Issues 1 and 2, and Volume 2, Issue 1, are on-line. Volume 2
Issue 1 is a special theme publication co-edited by Drs. Chance W. Lewis
(
Colorado State University
,
USA
) and James L. Moore, III (The Ohio State University, USA).
Published articles, research reports, best practice descriptions, poster
sessions, and book reviews are available in Web html and PDF formats
(access the Issues
link), and as stated above, can be used within copyright
laws. I want to thank the authors, guest editors, associate
and assistant editors, and reviewers for the efforts they put forth to
publish theses issues.
Volume
2 (Issue 2) and Volume 3 ( Issue 1): In
Press
Because
the time tables for publishing Volume 2, Issue 2, and Volume 3, Issue 1,
were significantly delayed by the physical destruction and psychological
and social disruptions caused by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, it was
decided to use editorial resources and the 2006 spring semester to
prepare and publish both issues simultaneously. Presently, I am
working with the editors, selected members of the Board of Reviewers,
and the authors to prepare works for Volume 2 Issue 2 and Volume 3 Issue
1. It is anticipated that
both issues will be on-line by June 1, 2006.
I want to express
my sincere thanks to the authors whose works will be published in Volume
2, Issue 2, and Volume 3, Issue 1, for their support during this trying
period and and
their patience with the publication process. As we know, one of
the most exiting days in the life of researcher or writers is receiving
a communication indicating that their work has been accepted for
publication. The next most exciting day is seeing that work
published.
Volume
3 (Issue 2): Special Theme Issue
Drs.
Monika Williams Shealey and Brenda L. Townsend, academics at the
University of South Florida USA), will be guest editors for Volume 3,
Issue 2. This special theme issue, entitled “Missing In Action:
The Promise of Urban Special Education Research,” will provide a
theoretical framework for work conducted in inclusive and urban settings
as well as share research which supports the implementation of
culturally responsive teaching strategies with culturally and
linguistically diverse students. It is the expectation of the
editors that this issue will serve as the catalyst for a paradigm shift
in how urban learners are studied and taught (e.g., impact of
legislation and policy on teacher practice, assessment of students of
color and students with disabilities, best practices in literacy and
mathematics, and multicultural issues in special education).
Information regarding this special theme issue can be obtained by
contacting Dr. Shealey (shealey@tempest.coedu.usf.edu).

4 (Issues 1 and 2): Call for Manuscripts
The
deadline for submitting manuscripts for consideration for publication in
Volume 4, Issue 1, is May 15, 2006.
The deadline for submitting manuscripts for consideration for
publication in Volume 4, Issue 2, is December 15, 2006.
