Departmental Mission Statement The primary mission of the Office of the Comptroller is to efficiently and effectively monitor financial resources to minimize business risk, safeguard University assets, monitor fiscal compliance, ensure timely and accurate financial reporting, improve internal controls and accountability at all levels, and provide professional and courteous services to our internal and external customers. All operational processes of the office functions together in supporting the University's 2003 - 2008 Strategic Plan and institutional goal of Efficiency, Effectiveness, and Accountability. Departmental Description The Office of the Comptroller is under the reporting hierarchy of the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration through the Associate Vice Chancellor for Financial Operations and Comptroller. Direct management of theoperational processes within the office has been delegated to the following administrative support managers. Associate Comptrollor for Sponsored Programs Accounting, Policy Development and Compliance Operations; Associate Comptroller for Financial Accounting and Disbursement Operations; Associate Comptroller for Student Operations and Bursar These administrative support units exist to ensure the continued success of the University as an instituion of higher education in achieving its mission of teaching, research, and outreach. The core functions performed by these unites include general accounting, sponsored program accounting, payroll, accounts payable, budget management, travel management, cashier operations, student billings & recieveables, collections & receivables, cash management, compliance operations, endowment management, and administrative support. The Office of the Comptroller operates on the Baton Rouge Campus and provides various levels of financial and administrative servies to all campuses of the Southern University System.
