Southern University holds convocation for displaced students

Location changed to accommodate large number of student applicants

Over 400 displaced students filled out applications at Southern University on Tuesday, September 6. In order to accommodate the displaced students the University has changed the location of convocation to Seymour Gymnasium on Wednesday, September 7 at 1 p.m.

SU will enroll as a visiting student for the fall 2005 semester any student currently enrolled at any one of the institutions affected by the hurricane. Students from any of the affected institutions will be provided with counseling, advisement and general information by the University staff of the Division of Enrollment Management.

Student applicants must apply in person through Friday, September 16. Operating hours for displaced students to enroll are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday in Seymour Gymnasium. Interested students can also call 225.771.4361 or 225.771.4362 for further information.

Graduate students who have been displaced by Hurricane Katrina should report to Seymour Gymnasium beginning Tuesday, September 6, at noon. The Graduate School will assist these students in admissions processes and appropriate departmental personnel to schedule classes. Call Graduate School staff at 225-771-5390 with any questions.

The admissions process includes advising, registration for classes, and arrangements for housing, meal plans, student aid and parking. The Temporary Registration Center in Seymour Gymnasium will provide a centralized location to accommodate all needs.

SU will make every attempt to find housing on campus for every displaced student that is accepted and enrolled at SU for the 2005 fall semester.
