Southern University announces 2017 Homecoming Court - Wednesday, October 4, 2017

10/05/2017
Shreveport native Felise C. Thompson-Doyle, who was crowned the 87th Miss Southern University, during a formal coronation Wednesday, October 4 in SU F.G. Clark Activity Center, will reign over the 2017 Homecoming on the "Bluff."

Joining Thompson-Doyle on this year's homecoming court are Darby A. Smith, Miss Senior, escorted by Senior Class President Xavier Diamond; Traci D. Smith, Miss Junior, escorted by Junior Class President Darren E. Smith; Destiney L. Ausmer, Miss Sophomore, escorted by Sophomore Class President Jaylon D. Robinson; and Caché M. Brown, Miss Freshman, escorted by Freshman Class President Trey A. Gros.

Student Government Association President Armond Duncan, a senior business management and marketing major from Alexandria, will escort Miss Southern, a senior biology major.

This year’s homecoming theme, "Southern Hot 103," is a tribute to the campus celebrating 103 years in Baton Rouge. The University is hosting a number of events this week in celebration of Homecoming Week.

The SU Athletic Department announced that kickoff for Saturday's football game against Alabama A&M has been moved up to 1 p.m. at A.W. Mumford Stadium. As a result, the annual homecoming parade and the homecoming day party have been postponed until further notice.

The University has measures in place to ensure the safest possible environment and experience for students, fans, alumni, and visitors. Everyone is encouraged to arrive early for events, and fans attending the football game are reminded of the clear bag policy for A.W. Mumford Stadium.

The SU Police Department offers the following additional tips:

• Horses and four wheelers are prohibited on the campus. Game parking hangtags should be in clear view to be verified by parking attendants.
• Large crowds are expected so keep your children in sight and keep unlicensed drivers off golf carts.
• Stay hydrated even if you’re not thirsty, drink plenty of water.
• Harding Blvd is the main entrance, but Swan and Mills Streets should be used depending on your parking location.
