Alums’ artwork draws big crowd at SU exhibition

Chancellor James L. Llorens, students, staff and community supporters attended the Visual Arts Gallery’s spring opening exhibition Wednesday night in Frank Hayden Hall.

The exhibition proved to be a successful evening as patrons expressed their admiration of the artwork by SU alums Nathaniel A. Landry, Antoine “GHOST” Mitchell and Heather Holliday.

Robert Cox, director of the Visual Art Gallery, said he was happy with the turn out for the opening. And, it was a good experience for the visitors who had a chance to talk with the artists.

Students from a Black History class and Understanding Visual Arts class were in attendance. One student stated that he was glad that he came out.

Baton Rouge resident Lucille Robinson came to the Gallery with her cousin and they both loved it. One of Robinson’s favorite pieces was “I Got My Eye on You” by Nathan A. Landry.

“I like that the girl is starring at the man like she is angry. It is telling a story,” Robinson said.

The exhibition will run until May 2 in Frank Hayden Hall, Monday- Thursday from 10 a.m. - 4p.m. It will be closed the week of spring break, April 9.
