Chancellor Llorens talks University matters with biz cluster

Baton Rouge campus Chancellor Dr. James L. Llorens told members of the Southern University Business and Industry Cluster that the University is working hard to right itself after suffering a series of large state budget cuts, financial exigency, layoffs and furloughs.

He told representatives from a number of University stakeholders that SUBR is reshaping its academic programs to become more efficient and student friendly.

While restructuring and reorganizing on the campus will be beneficial to the students, Llorens said, the University, along with all of higher education in the state, must prepare for more state budget cuts.

Speaking to the group at a morning meeting, the Chancellor told the group that the University is in the midst of construction and repairs across the campus. The most prominent locations include resurfacing of the parking lot at the F.G. Clark Activity Center, the construction of the Intramural Sports Complex and renovations at Harris Hall.

There were representatives from a number of companies, including Texas Instruments, The Boeing Company, Raytheon, the Chevron Corporation, Entergy, Formosa Plastics and Johnson & Johnson.

The Business and Industry Cluster bolster educational and employment opportunities for Southern students.
