Master of Public Administration earns re-accreditation

The Master of Public Administration program at Southern University has received its re-accreditation from the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration (NASPAA).

The Commission on Peer Review and Accreditation made the announcement recently. COPRA is the specialized accreditor of master’s degree programs in the area of public administration and public affairs.

The process of re-accreditation began with an extensive and detailed self-study process that originated from within the department followed by a consultation visit, a review and recommendation by the Site Visit Team in March 2012, and a final review by COPRA. This is the third seven-year accreditation cycle for the MPA program.

The NASPAA Standards are the quality benchmarks used by graduate public service programs around the world. NASPAA’s accreditation process is mission-based and driven by public service values. There are seven NASPAA standards that degree programs and departments must establish conformity with in order to gain accreditation and re-accreditation.
