Chancellor Llorens talks with Business Industry Cluster

Chancellor James L. Llorens told members of Southern’s Business and Industry Cluster that the Baton Rouge campus will be increasing its fundraising efforts in the coming months.

He said a series of state budget cuts and a decline in enrollment has resulted in financial challenges at the university and has necessitated a stronger fundraising push.

Llorens said he was impressed with the freshman class and their excitement.  He said their enthusiasm has been obvious at several events held on the campus for them.

The university is still going through reorganization and restructuring, Llorens told the group at the Thursday morning meeting held in the Hi-Tech Room in the P.B.S. Pinchback Engineering Building. The changes are expected to result in a better education delivery system for students and faculty, he said.

Representatives were on hand for the annual gathering from a number of corporations, including, Delphi, The Boeing Company, Chevron Corp., IBM, Entergy, Raytheon , Shell Oil, Texas Instruments and Proctor & Gamble.

Also during the gathering, the representatives gave the university a $2,500 donation.
