College of Business maintains prestigious AACSB accreditation

Southern University’s College of Business has maintained its accreditation from its international accrediting body. The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business announced Thursday that the accreditation has been continued.

The AACSB is the longest serving global accrediting body for business schools that offer undergraduate, master’s and doctoral degrees in business and accounting.

The accreditation means Southern’s School of Business is among the less than 5 percent of the world’s business programs that have achieved AACSB accreditation, according to the 96-year-old accrediting agency. There are more than 650 business schools in 45 countries and territories that maintain AACSB Accreditation.

“It takes a great deal of commitment and determination to earn and maintain AACSB Accreditation,” said Robert D. Reid, executive vice president and chief accreditation officer of AACSB International. “Business schools must not only meet specific standards of excellence, but their deans, faculty and professional staff must make a commitment to ongoing continuous improvement to ensure that the institution will continue to deliver the highest quality of education to students.”

Dr. Donald R. Andrews, dean of the College of Business, said high quality instruction continues to be the foundation of the business school. “The College of Business at Southern provides the highest quality instruction, research, and service in the areas of accounting, economics, finance, management, marketing, small business development, and the MBA program as validated by the confirmation of the continuation of AACSB International accreditation.”

Andrews, who is also a professor of economics, said, “The faculty, staff, students, alumni, university administration, and community supporters are to be congratulated for their contributions in making this achievement possible.”
