SU grad Kent Smith installed as President of Langston U.

Southern University graduate Dr. Kent J. Smith, Jr. was celebrated Thursday during an investiture service installing him as the 16th president of Langston University in Oklahoma.

Smith holds a bachelor's degree in secondary education and a master's degree in administration and supervision from Southern University. He has a doctorate in education and human resources from Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado.

Southern Chancellor Dr. James L. Llorens spoke at the installation ceremonies held Thursday morning in the C.F. Gayles Gymnasium on Langston campus.

Smith succeeds former Langston President JoAnn Haysbert, who left the university last year to return to Hampton University in Virginia to serve as executive vice president.
