College of Ed to hold ‘Praxis Fun Day,' May 1
The College of Education will hold a “Praxis Fun Day” for education students on Wednesday, May 1, on the front lawn of W.W. Stewart Hall.
The Fun Day, from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., will include food, fun activities, music and dance.
Teacher candidates applying for certification in Louisiana must past the appropriate Praxis assessment. The Praxis Series are assessments for teacher candidates administered by Educational Testing Services.
Dr. Luria Young, interim dean of the College of Education, said the idea behind the event is to get students to relax and have a good time as they prepare to take the all-important assessment.
“Praxis Fun Day is a part of the College of Education's strategy to help build our students' preparation and confidence for the upcoming examination,” she said, adding that additional activities include Praxis workshops and Practice Praxis examinations.
“Many of our students have done a great job of preparing themselves but still have test anxiety,” Young said. “So we have modeled a fun day much like they do at K-12 schools prior to students taking major standardized testing.”
