40th Annual Bayou Classic announces 2013 schedule of events

The Bayou Classic announced its official schedule of events for the 40th Annual Bayou Classic beginning November 26 in New Orleans between Southern University and Grambling State University.

The event brings together family, friends and alumni from both universities to witness one of America’s greatest college sports rivalries and to celebrate football, family and the traditions surrounding Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

Proceeds from the week-long series of events are provided to both schools for student scholarships.

This year’s schedule will include the fan favorites “Battle of the Bands” and “Greek Show,” November 29, as well as new events such as the “Bayou Classic Empowerment Exchange: Focusing on Health and Wellness” and the “Doc Griggs 2X’s Around the Dome.”

Dottie Belletto, President of New Orleans Convention Company, Inc., the management firm of the 40th Annual Bayou Classic, said, “This is a big year – the big 4-0 – and we are ready to celebrate with new events and bigger events that celebrate what the Bayou Classic has brought our community…”

In anticipation of the 40th Celebration of the Classic, the “Bayou Classic Roadshow” will travel to events and five football games of Southern and Grambling starting June 1 bringing challenges, prizes, meet and greets with former Bayou Classic participants and fans providing predictions on the 2013 Bayou Classic winner.

The Roadshow will be in Baton Rouge at Southern’s home games on Sept. 28, Oct. 5 and Nov. 16.

“The Bayou Classic Roadshow is an exciting event that brings together students, alumni and fans from both Grambling State University and Southern University. The Roadshow will bring a unique experience to each of these groups, and we will be able to further extend the traditions of HBCUs through our presence at these exciting games,” said Belletto.
