State Rep. Jackson to be Southern's summer commencement speaker
Democratic State Rep. Katrina R. Jackson, chair of the Louisiana Legislative Black Caucus, will be the guest speaker at Southern University's summer 2013 graduation ceremony set for 10:30 a.m., Friday, Aug. 2, in the F.G. Clark Activity Center.
The Monroe native is a member of the Democratic Caucus, Secretary of the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus, and a member of the Louisiana Rural Caucus.
Jackson, an attorney, was elected to the state Legislature in 2011 to represent District 16, which encompasses parts of Ouachita and Morehouse parishes.
She has also served as an interim member on House Appropriations, House and Governmental Affairs, and the Joint Legislative Committee on the Budget.
The north Louisiana legislator received a Bachelor's degree in Pre-Law and Legal Studies from the University of Louisiana at Monroe and a law degree in 2004 from the Southern University Law Center.
