SU Small Business to hold series of seminars, training


The Louisiana Small Business Development Center at Southern University is conducting a series of educational and training events January 13-16 in the Baton Rouge area.

Monday, Jan. 13, at 5:30 p.m. Training session on the "Affordable Care Act."

The session will explain the changes to the new health care law and the impact it will have on small businesses.

The event will be held at LSBDC's location at 616 Harding Blvd.

January 14, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Seminar on "Starting and Financing a Small Business at the Ascension Parish Library, 40300 Highway 42, in Prairieville.

Topics of discussion will include writing a business plan, sources of funds for start-up and expansion, small business resources, and required licenses.

January 15 at 10 a.m.  8A Certification Training will be head at the  Louisiana Technology Park, 7117 Florida Blvd.

Information will be presented on eligibility criteria; length of time in business requirement; the firm's responsibility as an 8(a) Program Participant; Electronic Application process; and reporting requirements.

January 15, at 1 p.m. System for Award Management (SAM) session at the Louisiana Technology Park.

The workshop will walk participants through completion of their SAM registration. For those who were registered in CCR, assistance will be provided in migrating their legacy CCR account.

To complete SAM Registration please bring:

1. DUNS number. If you do not have a DUNS Number, you can request your

     DUNS number online at


    IDENTIFICATION NUMBER (EIN). If you do not have your EIN you can 

    apply online at and click on "Apply for an EIN Online.


    (CAGE Code). The CAGE code is a five-character ID number used

    extensively within the federal government, assigned by the Department

    of Defense's Defense Logistics Agency (DLA).

4. Your BANKING INFORMATION. All payments made by the Federal

    Government are now made by way of Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT).

5. Statistical Information about your business.
