36th Annual Dr. Leroy Roquemore Symposium



The Department of Computer Science will host the "36th Annual Dr. Leroy C. Roquemore Computer Science Symposium," February 19 and 20, in room 313 of T.T. Allain Hall.


Several high schools will attend the "High School Day: Discover Computer Science" event on Wednesday, Feb. 19. The program is designed to interest students in technology and Computer Science.


Several speakers, company exhibitions, and a robotic and gaming demonstration are part of Wednesday's events.


Students will also take a trip to the Southern University Career Fair being held in the F.G. Clark Activity Center from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.


Symposium Chair Alvin Allen said he hopes the event "encourages students to major in fields like Computer Science at Southern University."


The symposium, "Innovations in Technology," set for Thurs., Feb. 20, will discuss the constant evolution in the computing world. There are new innovations in the field of computer science including gaming, robotics, virtual reality, computational science, e-business, and cloud computing.


The Thursday event is from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Registration is suggested.


Speakers from IBM, Boeing, Sogeti, SAP, Edgewood Chemical Biological Center and Blue Cross Blue Shield, will assist in motivating and challenging future leaders by presenting new ideas and cutting edge innovations. The technical sessions will include hands-on activities, panel discussions, videos and tutorials.


A Corporate Mixer will follow from 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. in room 120 of T.T. Allain.
