Southern University's College of Engineering and Computer Science is hosting the 2014 Annual Advancing Minorities Interest in Engineering (AMIE) Conference on Thursday, Sept. 4, in the P.B.S. Pinchback Engineering building.

Acting Chancellor Flandus McClinton will welcome the deans from 14 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) and conference attendees to Southern's campus, at 9 a.m., in the High Tech Room of Pinchback.

The AMIE luncheon will be held in the Cotillion Ballroom of the Smith-Brown Memorial Union at noon, followed by a tour of Southern's campus.

Some of the HBCUs scheduled to be in attendance include: Alabama A&M University, Florida A&M University, Howard University, Jackson State University.

A Welcome Reception for the HBCU Deans will be held Wednesday, Sept. 3, at 6:30 p.m., in the Southern University Museum of Art.

The purpose of AMIE is to expand corporate, government, and academic alliances, and to implement and support programs that attract, educate, graduate and place under-represented minority students in engineering careers.
