SU expects over 2,000 high school students for Jaguar Preview High School Day

Southern University invites all high school students to the "2016 Jaguar Preview High School Day" set for Saturday, November 19, 2016. The theme for this year is "Taking Over for the '99 and 2000."

Registration is $25 per person and early registration is recommended by October 31. Onsite registration will also be available.

Jaguar Preview is an opportunity for prospective students that have an interest in enrolling at Southern University to get an intimate look into the University's world-class educational programs and exceptional student services. Parents, teachers, and guidance counselors are also invited.

Students will have the opportunity to speak with SU faculty and staff from various academic departments, and throughout the day SU student recruiters will conduct campus tours.

"Students will get to come in and be emerged into the wonderful culture that Southern offers. We are looking forward to over 2,000 high school students from all over the nation," said Morgan Hilliard, SU recruiter.

SU freshmen Destiny Ausmer attended high school day last year when she was a senior at Biloxi High School and said her experience was "amazing."

"My choice was to always attend an HBCU but attending Jaguar Preview sealed the deal. From meeting faculty and staff, the Student Government Association, to learning about the University, I knew Southern University would be my home. Students should choose Southern University because it has an amazing family environment, the professors are very informative and there are many opportunities that push you towards success from application to graduation," said Ausmer.

Planned activities for the day include a welcome program, student organizational fair, tailgate, a performance by the world renowned Southern University "Human Jukebox" Marching Band, the Gold N' Bluez Dance Team, the SU Cheerleaders, and the National Pan Hellenic Council. The day will end with the Southern University football game as the Jaguars take on the Mississippi Valley State University Devils in A.W. Mumford Stadium at 6 p.m.
