Curriculum Plans (Effective Spring 2013)
The MSN curriculum prepares family health nurses who are able to function in the roles of teacher, administrator, or family nurse practitioner (NP). A two year plan of study with both part-time and full-time options are available. The degree requirements consist of 34-37 semester credit hours for the educator and administrator roles and 41-44 credit hours for the family nurse practitioner role. Students pursing the family nurse practitioner option are required to take
- core courses (9 credit hours)
- advanced practice core courses (10 credit hours)
- specialty courses in family health nursing (7 credit hours)
- NP role preparation courses (15-18 credit hours).
Students selecting the nurse educator or nurse administrator roles are required to take
- core courses (9 credit hours)
- advanced practice core courses (10 credit hours)
- an elective (3 credit hours)
- a specialty course in family nursing (3 credit hours)
- role preparation courses (9-12 credits).
Twenty-nine (29) credit hours of course work have been expressly designed for students preparing for the post-masters Family Nurse Practitioner
