Campus Dining/Food Services
The Food Services Department is the operative authority on nourishing our campus community. The responsibility of Food Services is to provide the Southern University the opportunity to view and practice consuming a well balanced diet of nutritionally sound meals, prepared and served in a sanity environment.
Office of Career Services
The Office of Career Services provides insight and tools for students seeking Internships, Co-Op and full employment. This office provides career counseling, resume workshops, and soft skill workshops. The office is open to both graduate and undergraduate students that desire to acquire meaningful vocational and professional opportunities. We encourage our students to become familiar with this office and its staff. We recommend that students submit their résumés as early as the second week of their freshman semester.
Office of Disability Services (ODS)
The Office of Disability Services (ODS) is committed to the providing accommodations to students with various needs.
Office of Student Life
The Office of Student Life informs and guides students of acceptable behavior. The goal of this office is to give students clarity on their social and academic responsibility to themselves as well as the university. This office is also tasked with supporting and developing student leadership and character.
Office of Residential Life
The Residential Life Department creates a living and learning environment that is conducive to academic success, cultural and social development through enhancement of programs. The department's focus is to provide a reasonable priced living environment which is well maintained, comfortable, and safe to promote the development of the total student and to ensure the orderly and effective administration of services through sound management and leadership.
Smith-Brown Memorial Union
The Smith-Brown Memorial Union is an integral part of the educational program and academic support services of the University, which adds to the academic and cultural development of students through participation in social, cultural, intellectual programs.The Union is the central social location for students on campus. The Union acts as the nerve center for social interaction and leisure activities. The staff provides and promotes programs that are responsive to student developmental needs and to the social, recreational and continuing educational needs of the campus community.
Business and Industry Cluster
The Business and Industry Cluster is composed of several corporate partners of the university. This group of professionals assists the university in preparing our students to compete globally. The cluster does not limit its support to professional skill advisement; the group also provides employment opportunities and funding and has input on curriculum.
Student Government Association
The Student Government Association is the largest student organization on campus. This organization acts as the primary student representative organization. This organization gives students an opportunity to both learn and serve there fellow students. Several of the university's most recognized alumni have served in this fine organization.
Student Health Center
The Baranco-Hill Student Health Center is an ambulatory health care facility, which provides primary care for routine acute and chronic illness. The center offers allergy injections, health education, in house laboratory services, confidential STD testing, reproductive consultation including contraception, specialty consultation referral, emergency contraception, treatment and screening for limited illnesses, and women's and men's health care.
Student Media Services
The Office of Student Media was created to guide and serve its student journalist and campus community with quality publications for the purpose of enhancing the student experience while servicing the entire university through the production of a student newspaper, online newspaper, student magazine, and university yearbook.
Student Orientation/Outreach & Leadership Development
The Office of S.O.L.D. coordinates "365 Jag: University Orientation & Welcome Week Program", Outreach/Community Service, and the Ambassador Leadership Program. S.O.L.D. offers multiple opportunities for students to become actively involved with the university as well as the community.
A large part of a student's college experience is meeting new people. Life long bonds are often formed in college and a great way to meet new people is to join a student organization. The varied student organizations on campus cover a full range of student interests and activities.
The Student Programs Office enhances the academic curriculum and facilitates the overall educational experience of students through development of and participation in student programming. The office encourages and aids the development of programs that expand involvement with the University community and society. Governance programs are also the domain of this office. The delivery and operation of the Student Government Association and all Academic, Pan Hellenic, and Service Clubs are all guide by this office.
The Southern University Academic Catalog is the primary academic publication for Southern University students. This catalog will outline and inform students of exactly what is required for proper matriculation thru the university and its colleges. In addition, this catalog also contains university accepted protocols and procedures for various processes within the university.
University Counseling Center
The University Counseling Center (UCC) provides group and individual counseling, crisis intervention, and referral for psychological and psychiatric evaluations, as well as prevention and consultation services for the entire university community. The professional staff of the center is composed of psychologist, counselors, and high-trained personnel that can assist in life management and decisions.
