Underrepresented Minorities: A Rich Pool of STEM Talent

In 2012, the National Science Foundation's Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation (LS-AMP), under the leadership of Dr. A. James Hicks, LS-AMP Program Director, published profiles of LS-AMP undergraduate and graduate scholars. This volume is entitled "Underrepresented Minorities: A Rich Pool of STEM Talent." It features more than 5,000 young minority Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) LS-AMP Scholars and highlights their talents, achievements, and their pursuit of graduate degrees.

The Louis Stokes Louisiana Alliance for Minority Participation (LS-LAMP), under the direction of Dr. Diola Bagayoko at Southern University and A&M College, significantly contributed to this publication by featuring the achievements and successes of 91 undergraduates and 113 STEM alumni. The student profiles appear on pages 69-92 in the Central Region Section of the volume. In this publication, our LS-LAMP scholars share their experiences while pursuing undergraduate degrees at our twelve LS-LAMP partner institutions. The profiles of our scholars and alumni capture significant contributions that the systemic mentoring activities of LS-LAMP have made to their academic, personal, and professional growth, as well as in their pursuit of advanced STEM degrees.

This publication was disseminated to LS-LAMP Campus Coordinators at partner institutions and to the Louisiana Board of Regents.
