Applying for Financial Aid

This series of videos explains how the financial aid process works and who is eligible to receive financial aid. Included is an overview of the financial aid process, step by step instructions on filling out the FAFSA, common myths about financial aid, as well as what one can expect after submitting the FAFSA.

 

Beginning Freshmen

1.      Apply for admission to Southern university and A&M College (SUBR).  You must apply for and be accepted for admission in a degree seeking program before the Office of Student Financial Aid can determine your eligibility and financial aid package.

2.      Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.ed.gov.   You must list Southern University and A&M College (SUBR) on your FAFSA to have your results forwarded to our institution. 

  • SUBR's Federal School Code is 002025. 
  • SUBR's Priority Deadline is Mach 31st of each year.

3.      To obtain a Personal Identification Number (PIN), go to www.pin.ed.gov

4.      Review your Student Aid Report (SAR).  If your SAR is rejected, requires correction or you are selected for a process called verification, you should read and take the appropriate action.

5.      Respond Immediately to Requests for Information from the Financial Aid Office.  Once the Office of Student Financial Aid receives your SAR, we will forward to your SUBR email account a "Missing information" email account outlining any additional information the office may require to complete your application.

Continuing Students

1.      Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.ed.gov.     You must list Southern University and A&M College (SUBR) on your FAFSA to have your results forwarded to our institution.

  • SUBR's Priority Deadline is Mach 31st of each year.

5.      Submit all Transcripts (Official) from previously attended schools.  Note:  Re-admitted students who attended other schools after leaving SUBR must submit official transcripts from all schools previously attended.
