First Year Experience Program

The First Year Experience program (FYE) focuses on the overall identity development of first year college students at Southern University and A&M College. First Year Experience at SUBR provides opportunities that allow self-discovery, student development and bridge the high school to college transition. The FYE program has several components: organizing advising during orientation, freshman seminar course, and leadership development.

Leadership Development Programs

The application deadline for Fall 2017 SU LEADS is now closed.

 

   

SU LEADS (held in the fall and spring semesters) is the entry-level leadership program for participants with the desire to serve in leadership roles at Southern University. These participants will be introduced to various strategies to enhance academic performances and self-awareness. Participants will develop a skillset that increases professionalism and marketability through targeted sessions. Through these trainings facets of communication, time management, teamwork, conflict management skills and other gifts will be revealed to enhance their capacity to lead in any realm. Participants will leave the program with new personal revelations and strategic approaches for navigating through the professional world.

 

        

iLead@SU (held in the Spring ONLY) is an advanced level leadership development program targeting new students that are interested in enhancing their perceptual and cognitive skills. Participants will gain the advanced skills necessary to plan and coordinate events at Southern University’s campus.

 

Freshman Seminar

Freshman Seminar is a required two part foundational course that helps new students transition from high school to college. These courses focus on developing the student academically and professionally.
