The University College is a prominent source for information and assistance to enhance college student learning, retention, and ultimate graduation rates. The unit is the foundation of the first year experience by providing the basis for lifelong learning, encouraging the students to make a commitment to active membership in the University community, and empowering students to make sound decisions relative to their career opportunities. University College develops and implements programs to ensure success at the University and to make college a satisfying experience. The department assists students in making the transition from high school to the college environment and provides academic support programs and opportunities to help students develop to their full academic potential.
The goal of the Unit is to assure that students acquire knowledge and skills that will enable them to be successful in their academic pursuit and meet the challenges of a Global Community.
A comprehensive program is coordinated through an array of academic offerings and services, i.e., Freshman Studies, Early Start Program (Dual Enrollment), Freshman Reading, Center for Student Success (Retention Program), University College Academy, Records and Transfer Center, and Freshman Convocation. Additionally, this unit has the responsibility of administering two pre-college academic enhancement programs: Educational Talent Search and Upward Bound. A detailed description of each program can be found on this website.
