Brief
Description: The International Science and Education Competitive
Grants Program (ISE) supports research, extension, and teaching
activities that will enhance the capabilities of American colleges
and universities to conduct international collaborative research,
extension and teaching. ISE projects are expected to enhance the
international content of curricula; ensure that faculty work beyond
the U.S. and bring lessons learned back home; promote international
research partnerships; enhance the use and application of foreign

Title:
Global Infectious Disease Research Training Program
Brief Description: The sponsors offer support for U.S. and
developing country institutions for programs to provide non-HIV/AIDS
infectious disease research training to scientists and health professionals
in order to build sustainable research capacity in research institutions
in low-and middle-income endemic countries. This PAR will use the
NIH international research training (D43) award mechanism.
Proposed
Funding: This program will use the NIH D43 international research
training award mechanism. An applicant for a Global Infectious Disease
Research Training Program award may request a project period of
up to five years and a budget for direct costs of up to $138,000
per year maximum. An applicant submitting a renewal application
may request a project period of up to five years and a budget for
direct costs up to $184,000. An applicant for a competing supplement
to a current Global Infectious Disease Research Training award may
request up to $46,000 per year direct costs for one year. A developing
country applicant for a planning grant may request up to $23,000
direct costs for one year. Facilities and administrative costs requested
by consortium participants are not included in the direct cost limitation.

Title VIII Research Scholar Program
Brief
Description: The sponsor provides support for graduate students,
faculty, and independent scholars seeking to conduct research for
three months to nine months in Belarus, Central Asia, Russia, the
South Caucasus, Ukraine, and Moldova. While a wide range of topics
receive support each year, all funded research must contribute to
a body of knowledge enabling the U.S. to better understand the region
and formulate effective policies within it. All applicants should
clearly describe the policy-relevance of their work, be it in anthropology,
literature, history, international relations, political science,
or some other field.
Proposed
Funding: The value of the fellowship ranges from $5,000 to $25,000.
Typical awards include: international airfare from the scholar's
home to his/her host city; academic affiliation at a leading local
university; housing in a university dormitory or with a local host
family (the sponsor may also provide informal assistance in locating
apartments in some cities); a monthly living stipend; financial
and logistical support for travel within the region as required
by research; and health insurance. The sponsor also arranges for
visas in direct collaboration with academic host institutions. Scholars
may apply for support for research in more than one country during
a single trip, provided they intend to work in the field for a total
of three to nine months.

Brief
Description: The Research Fellowship Program (RFP), administered
by WCS-International Conservation's Training & Capacity Building
Program, is a small grants program designed to support individual
field research projects that have a clear application to the conservation
of threatened wildlife and wildlife habitat and that are based on
sound and innovative conservation science. In addition, the RFP
aims to build capacity for the next generation of conservationists.
Most of the grantees are professional conservationists from the
country of research and/or post-graduates pursuing a higher degree.

longer than one year. The average grant is $11,000.
