This Project will positively impact residents by providing

  • Increased access to home ownership;
  • Improved residential living conditions; and
  • Cleaner, safer neighborhoods.

Additionally, this project will strengthen the bonds between Southern University and surrounding community-based and faith-based organizations by:

  • Increasing the capacity of each organization,allowing them to better serve low-to-moderate income;
  • Assisting the community based development organization; and
  • Improving the neighborhoods in the vicinity of Southern University.

The Southern University-Building Stronger Communities (SU-BSC) project will:

  • Create housing stabilization program by renovating homes for low-to-moderate income residents and stressing home owners retention and maintenance.
  • Strengthen and Adopt-a-Block program to clean up and maintain homes for low-to-moderate income neighborhoods.
  • Implement a program to increase home ownerhip for low-to-moderate income persons.
  • Provide training and technical assistance on strategic planning, grant writing and infrastructure development to community based development organizations.
