| The Southern University Center for Social Research and its partners, were contracted by the US Army Corps of Engineers. They collected information, recommendations and concerns to improve the water flow and quality of the Flat Lake Water Management Unit(WMU). We desire your concerns about that area and any suggestions and recommendations available to improve all aspects of the Flat Lake WMU. The Center for Social Research and a representative from Shaw Environmental and Infrastructure, Inc lead the outreach component of this contract. The successful outreach effort included individual and group interviews, town hall meetings, discussions with elected officials and government organizations. This web site served as one mechanism to maintain public awareness of this project, its progress and its recommendations. The Flat lake Water Management Unit is inside the Atchafalaya Basin and is approximately bounded by Bayou Sorrel, the Atchafalaya River, Big and Little Bayou Pigeon and the Inter coastal Water Way. |
