Dear Alumni,
About a month has past since our last statement to you about the
campus. We trust that you and your families are adjusting to
temporary locations; some are settling in permanently; yet
others have returned to their homes. Whatever the situation, we
intend to keep you informed on the status of Southern University
at New Orleans.
As of this week, workers from various agencies and organizations
will be on campus to determine when the physical campus will
open again. We will post that date on the web site as soon as
it is known. We fully intend to have classes in New Orleans for
the 2006 spring semester.
In an effort to rebuild our campus, we are reaching out to you
for help in reclaiming our students. We know we have alumni
over many states and beyond. If you know where any of our
students are, please have them to contact us. Those planning to
return should go to:
www.suno.edu to the Intent to Enroll Form.
Many of you have inquired about duplicate copies of your
diplomas and transcripts. Those requests will be honored as
quickly as possible. Our registrar has been inundated with
requests for transcripts from students who enrolled in other
universities this semester to continue their education.
Priority will be given to currently enrolled students. We need
you to be a bit patient during these unusual times.
Even though these are challenging times, many things remain the
same. One of those is the Bayou Classic Football Game. Because
of the hurricane devastation in New Orleans, the game has been
moved to Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas. The kickoff is
Saturday, November 26, 2005 at 1:00 pm. Tickets can be
purchased from Ticketmaster, or through the Office of Alumni
Affairs. If you choose the latter, you should make contact as
quickly as possible since we have only a limited number of
tickets to sell. Prices of tickets range from $30.00 to $50.00.
As a means of maintaining contact with our students enrolled at
universities in the Houston area, our chancellor, Dr. Robert B.
Gex is hosting a breakfast for those students and alumni in the
area the morning of the game. If you are interested in
attending, please respond by Monday, November 14, 2005. Your
timely response will allow us to adequately prepare for you.
Let us keep in touch.
Sincerely,
Gloria Bartley Moultrie (’67)
Alumni Affairs Director
