Whether providing information about programs or services, acknowledging achievers and supporters, or inviting participants to a campus event, your message is part of the total Southern University communications effort. The Office of Publications and Electronic Media can package your message, helping promote a consistent and positive university image.

Established in October 1992, the Office of Publications and Electronic Media was formed through Title III, a federal granting source for developmental programs at historically black colleges and universities. Our professional staff assists university departments in producing effective publications and electronic media programs.

Among publications produced by this office are the SU Insider (a newsletter for our faculty, staff, academic peers, and external supporters); faculty/staff directories; university facts brochures; viewbooks; annual reports; handbooks; course catalogs; program booklets, and recruitment packages, including companion brochures, folders, posters, and mailers.

The director of publications and electronic media is designated to offer guidelines that ensure uniform editorial and graphic standards in university publications. The office provides copywriting, editing, graphic design, and photography services.

To ensure use of publications standards employed by publishers, public relations specialists, and universities globally, we adhere to rules provided by The Chicago Manual of Style. Revered by editors and publishers since 1906, this manual, from the University of Chicago Press, helps align your publication with standards advocated by the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) and higher education boards of regents nationwide.

The Office of Publications and Electronic Media operates under the auspices of the Office of the Chancellor, advancing higher education programs and public relations initiatives through production of supportive media.
