Two degrees are offered through the Graduate Programs in the School of Nursing. They are the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Nursing and the Master of Nursing Science (MSN). Three role options are offered in the MSN program. They are preparation as an educator, administrator, or family nurse practitioner. The graduate nursing program is a professional program within the context of higher education. Its major focus is the preparation and development of advanced practice professional nurses in a climate that is relevant to the health care needs of society and the professional culture. The standards of practice are paramount in the design of studies as is a research framework. The vision of the School of Nursing is to achieve national recognition for its programs of study, especially for its success with students from disadvantaged backgrounds, and for the progress that has been made in its Office of Nursing Research. The graduates of the nurse practitioner program have achieved pass rates that are above the national average on certification examinations and the research accomplishments in the Ph.D. program are noteworthy.
