is TALENT SEARCH?
Educational TALENT SEARCH is a federally sponsored program hosted
by SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY A & M, Baton Rouge Campus. ETS, is
a pre-college prep program for low-income, potential first-generation
college students who at the secondary level indicates the potential
for postsecondary success. A systematic program of activities
and services provided are designed to enhance emonstrated abilities
and improve required skills to insure the possibility of continued
success throughout secondary and post secondary training programs.
The purpose of the program is to encourage, motivate, and assist
middle and high school students and dropouts to progressively
continue in secondary school, graduate, and pursue post-secondary
training.
What
do we do?
The Educational TALENT SEARCH Projects at Southern University
and A&M , Baton Rouge (SUBR), Louisiana provides program services
to 1600 disadvantaged participants in the target area of South
Central Louisiana. The targeted area encompasses eleven (11) parishes,
both rural and urban communities, with the majority of participants
coming from rural communities.
Three hundred (300) participants from the middle school grades
are provided with an extensive intense comprehensive program,
providing:
• Career advisement
• Personal-social guidance
• Cultural experiences
To further enhance growth in the intellectual, social, and recreational
attributes of society.
The program emphasizes academics, personal-social and career guidance,
as well as, cultural experiences to enhance growth and motivate
the desire for all participants to succeed and to reach his/her
fullest potential.
The developmental programs are designed to address the increasing
needs of target area participants, and through implementation
of intensified monthly services, activities, and techniques, generate
academic skills and motivations that will enable participants
to complete a secondary education program and to subsequently
gain admission to postsecondary institutions.
