Your Responsibility

Faculty and Staff: The University has a licensed antivirus program for all faculty and staff .  The hardware and software is managed and maintained by TNS.  Antivirus software is installed on every Southern-owned and managed computer.  Once the software is installed the virus definition updates are pushed to these computers automatically when the computers are connected to the network. To have the program installed on your computer, contact TNS. 

  Students: Students are responsible for the behavior of their personally-owned computer that will be connected to the campus network (wired or wireless). Therefore you must take all reasonable precautions, including running antivirus software and keeping the virus definitions up to date.  If you aren't sure how to do that, contact the Help Desk at 771-3935 ext. 228.
Antivirus/ Spyware

A virus is a software program designed to infect, destroy or interfere with a computer or software program. 

Spyware is software containing a program that runs in the background without the user’s knowledge while the user is connected to the Internet, to collect and transmit personal information and/or modify the operation of a user’s computer.

  

The purpose of antivirus & software software is to provide comprehensive protection against computer viruses and malicious code.
