When a sexual assault occurs on Southern University Campus the victim of the sexual assault should be examined immediately at the SU Health Center by the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE). The SANE has specialized training designed to attend to the immediate medical needs of  sexual assault victims and conduct a forensic medical examination.  SANEs are independent of law enforcement.  The SANE role includes obtaining and documenting evidence or the lack of evidence, and objectively reporting for litigation in the cause of justice.
