Training & Title IX Education

What is Title IX

The Southern University System is committed to fostering an environment in which all members of our community are safe, secure, and free from Sexual Misconduct of any form, including but not limited to Sexual Assault, Dating Violence, Domestic Violence, and Stalking. The Southern University System and all of its campuses comply with the mandate of Title IX and are committed to maintaining an environment of equal opportunity for all persons in all areas of university life. Therefore, Title IX protects people from discrimination based on sex in education programs or activities that receive federal financial assistance. Title IX states: No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance. Sexual harassment, which includes acts of sexual violence, is a form of sex discrimination prohibited by Title IX. These behaviors are clear impediments to creating an educational atmosphere that is free from discrimination. As a result, an institution receiving federal funds must promulgate strategies and policies, which demonstrate its ability to uphold the law and comply with applicable regulations.
