SUSLA College Connect Program

New first-time freshmen who do not meet the admission requirements to gain acceptance into Southern University at Baton Rouge (SUBR), Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO), or Louisiana State University Shreveport Campus (LSUS) may be referred for consideration to enroll in the SU College Connect Program.

Students do not have to pay an additional application fee. Participation in the SU College Connect Program prepares this population of students to ultimately enroll as a SUBR, SUNO, or LSUS student.

Southern University at Baton Rouge (SUBR), Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO), and Louisiana State University Shreveport (LSUS) have collaborated with Southern University at Shreveport (SUSLA) to offer the courses required for admission to SUBR, SUNO, or LSUS as a transfer student. Upon completion of 15 college-level credit hours (which includes a grade of “C” or better in a college-level English and a college-level Math), and a cumulative GPA of 2.00, students are eligible to transition to one of the 4-year schools. Students will take courses on the 4-year campuses taught by SUSLA instructors. Students may live in the residence hall on the host campus (SUBR, SUNO, or LSUS), and are eligible to participate in student activities on the host campus and the SUSLA campus. All courses taken with SU College Connect will automatically transfer to SUBR, SUNO, or LSUS upon completion of the required courses and GPA. It will not be necessary for students to request official transcripts from SUSLA; transcripts will be automatically sent to the students' host school free of charge.

Now to the “icing” on the SU College Connect “cake”: midway through pursuing a 4-year degree at one of the host schools, students may be eligible to obtain a 2-year degree from SUSLA.

That’s right! Once students have earned 60 college-level credits at the 4-year institution, they may be eligible to be awarded an associate degree in one of SUSLA’s academic programs…all while pursuing your 4-year degree at SUBR, SUNO, or LSUS. Ultimately, SU College Connect students can emerge from their “Jaguar” experience with two degrees.

Note: While the SU College Connect program is designed with new, first-time freshmen in mind, transfer students will be considered for participation on a case-by-case basis. After a review of the college transcript(s), the Director of Admissions and the Coordinator of Connect Programs will decide if the transfer student is eligible for the program.
