Former SU Coach Richardson to be Sports Hall of Fame inductee
Former Southern University head football coach Pete Richardson, who led the Jaguars to conference and national championships, will be inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame during ceremonies beginning at 6 p.m., June 23.
The event is being held at the Natchitoches Events Center, 750 Second Street.
From 1993-2007, Richardson won five SWAC championships and four Black College national championships. He also had 12 wins against Grambling State University in annual Bayou Classic games.
From 1997 to 1999, the Jaguars were undefeated in SWAC competition, winning three consecutive championships. That was Southern’s first time winning consecutive championships since 1959-60.
Richardson won his final SWAC and national championship in 2003, finishing with a 12-1 record.
