SU Geaux Pink Week

 

Southern University is collaborating with Mary Bird Perkins - Our Lady of the Lake Cancer Center to celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month during "SU Geaux Pink Week," Oct. 27-Nov.1.

 

The week of events culminates with the Southern University Football "Pink Game" when SU takes on Alabama State University, at 6 p.m., in A.W. Mumford Stadium.

 

SU Geaux Pink Week will kick off Monday, Oct. 27 with the Association for Women Students, Men's Federation and Jaguar Ambassadors presenting "What You Should Know" Health Forum in the Cotillion Ballroom at 7 p.m. Speakers from Mary Bird Perkins - Our Lady of the Lake will be present as well as several breast cancer survivors.

 

On Tuesday, Oct. 28, the Beta Sigma and Alpha Tau and Mary Bird Perkins will host an informational in the Smith-Brown Memorial Student Union Lobby. TBA.

 

For Wednesday, Oct. 29 the Student Government Association along with Alpha Sigma and Beta Psi AKA will host "Pretty Pink Wednesday" in front of the union from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Facts regarding breast cancer will be given out as well as information and screening by Mary Bird Perkins- Our Lady of the Lake. There will also be a balloon release in honor of those affected by breast cancer. 

 

On Saturday, Nov. 1, a Pink Game Tailgate will take place at Jaguar Rowe between Hayden and Fisher halls. A survivor and support balloon release will happen before the football game at 4:45 p.m.

 

Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center and Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center have been accredited together since 1992 by The American College of Surgeons, which is the gold-standard for community-based cancer care. However, the National Cancer Institute's competitive selection of the Cancer Center as a National Community Cancer Centers Program site in 2007 quickly accelerated the partnership's progress.
