University officials gather to discuss reorganization

Southern University-Baton Rouge Chancellor Dr. James L. Llorens and Interim Provost Dr. Janet Rami lead a recent retreat where reorganization of the Baton Rouge campus was discussed.

The gathering of about 60 university administrators, staff and faculty members was held over two days in May in the A.W. Mumford Fieldhouse. Also included in the discussions were System President Dr. Ronald Mason, Jr., and Commissioner of Higher Education Dr. Jim Purcell.

There were breakout sessions that dealt with how reorganization of the Colleges and Schools would result in the reduction of deans and department chairs and create cost savings. Those sessions also delved into how the University will implement the changes and continue to provide a quality education to students.

The deans gave presentations outlining the reorganization proposals for the various colleges and schools. Implementation of the proposed changes will start in fiscal year 2012-13.
