Dumas drops interim title; now Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs

Dr. Brandon K. Dumas is no longer an interim. The SU Board of Supervisors recently named him Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.

“I am proud to have the unique honor of serving in such a critical leadership role in the Division for Student Affairs,” Dumas said. “Student Affairs units across the country serve a paramount role in advancing university efforts to satisfy their historic institutional missions.”

“Over the past year, I have had the distinct pleasure of providing guidance to the Division for Student Affairs on an interim basis,” he said. “I have placed particular emphasis on modernizing our administrative approach to providing access to high quality programs, services and organizations designed to facilitate academic, personal, and extracurricular development of our contemporary student body.”

The responsibilities of the office are varied, from Student Media, to Greek Life, to Residential Life & Housing. Those are just some of the areas that fall under the management of Student Affairs. Others include: Career Services, Student Orientation & Leadership Development, Student Programs, Student Organizations, Intramural Sports, Food Services, University Counseling Center, Student Health Center, Smith-Brown Memorial Student Union and the Student Government Association.

“We have developed a bold and aggressive vision for our Division, formulated a data-driven strategic plan, and assembled a qualified administrative team committed to the shared goal of student development,” Dumas said.

Dumas is a graduate of Southern. He earned an MBA from Salem International University and a doctorate at Jackson State University in Mississippi.
