Bagayoko part of project at renowned Los Alamos lab

Bagayoko gets fed funds to participate in Los Alamos project

Dr. Diola Bagayoko, chairman of the Department of Physics, has received funding for a project that will assist in understanding catalysis and the design and fabrication of certain devices.

The project, funded by a $75,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Energy, is titled "Investigating and characterizing catalytic activity in novel materials and processes using experimental and computational techniques."

Bagayoko, SU System Distinguished Professor of Physics, says the project is a collaborative venture with Prairie View A&M University and is expected to lead to a much larger project that will span many years.

Bagayoko said he and co-workers at SUBR will carry out scientific computing aspects of the endeavor.  Tommy Rockward, a graduate of SU's Department of Physics and a research scientist at Los Alamos, is performing experimental measurements for this effort.  Los Alamos National Laboratory, in New Mexico, is one of the largest science and technology institutions in the world.  It conducts multidisciplinary research in fields such as national security, space exploration, renewable energy, medicine, nanotechnology and supercomputing.
