Class of 2019 welcomed into the Jaguar Nation

More than 1000 freshmen students, their parents, school administrators and staff turned out Sunday evening for the fall 2015 Freshmen Convocation in the F. G. Clark Activity Center.

The event was a grand welcome for the Class of 2019's first official day on the Baton Rouge campus. Southern University System President/Chancellor Dr. Ray Belton, along with Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management Dr. Brandon Dumas and his staff greeted the students.

Student Government Association President Dominique Diamond and JaMya Magee, along with other student government officials also greeted the freshmen.

The guest presenter, motivational speaker Joseph Washington, encouraged students to fight against being "just average." He told them that they owed it to themselves to find positive roles models and friends who will help them achieve their goals.

There was entertainment provided by the SU Gospel Choir.
