2015 Urban Forestry Conference

Southern University Urban Forestry Program is leading the Urban Forestry Research, Education and Outreach activities at the Society of American Foresters National Convention in Baton Rouge; with three scientific oral presentations, one organized scientific session, eight poster presentations  and one organized urban forestry educational tour. 
One educational and scientific exhibit is displayed in collaboration with the SU Agricultural Research and Extension Center.

The Society of American Foresters (SAF) is the largest and oldest forestry society in the nation. The convention is being held in Baton Rouge River Center in Louisiana (Nov 3-8) and is titled: Recreating Forestry, the Confluence of Sciences, Society, and Technology. 

Dr. Zhu Hua Ning, Professor of Urban Forestry served on Louisiana SAF, the National Convention Organizing Committee.  She also made an oral presentation, organized the urban forestry educational tour and presented several posters with her graduate students.

Other Urban forestry faculty members (Dr. Kamran Abdollahi, Urban Forestry Program Leader,  Dr. Fulbert Namwamba, Dr. Yadong Qi) presented several posters with their students and research assistants. 

Overall, 20 graduate and undergraduate students participated and presented the latest cutting edge research and teaching findings to more than 1200 registered national convention participants. 

The SAF Leadership, the National Association of University Forest Resources Programs (NAUFRP), the USDA Forest Service ( USDA-FS) and the USDA-NIFA were extremely supportive and praised the SU Urban Forestry Program for its contributions to the state and the nation for over 23 years.

In addition, Dr. Kamran Abdollahi is moderating an educational and research session for the forestry and natural resources programs.
