Why donate a brick?

Why Donate a Brick?

The Division for Student Affairs is committed to providing our students access to high quality support and services which contribute to their academic, professional and social development. We understand diverse student organizations and programming, progressive career planning and placement assistance, quality mental and physical health services and so many more Student Affairs services are necessary complements to the stellar academic experiences of our students. We are committed to providing existing services efficiently, effectively and accountably while identifying additional resources to fund new services students feel would be beneficial to enhance their matriculation.

Over the past year, we have begun the process of conducting renovations to the Smith-Brown Memorial Student Union, the "living room" of our campus. Our vision is to ensure that students have a place of comfort for leisure, studying, dining and fellowship with their peers. We have also implemented programs such as the Brace B. Godfrey, Jr. Leadership Institute, designed to grant students experiential opportunities to learn and practice leadership skills, and the "Jaguar Assistance for Graduating Seniors (JAGS)" Scholarship Program, designed to assist graduating seniors in meeting their financial need to graduate!

However, the Division for Student Affairs has been challenged in recent years with continuing to offer a high level of student support services under the constraints of budget reductions. Our Division operates solely from auxiliary and self-generated revenue. We receive no financial support from the State of Louisiana's general appropriation to Southern University. This considered, support from individuals like you are vital for us to continue to operate and put the students first!

By donating a brick, you are assisting us in accomplishing two goals: completing the brick walkway which will beautify the Courtyard of the Student Union, and raising funds to support these Student Affairs Initiatives. We strongly urge your continued support of the next generations of Jaguars!

Who May Donate a Brick?

Bricks may be donated by any member of the Jaguar Nation - current and past students, faculty members, staff and administrators, alumni, local businesses and corporations, and other university supporters. It is all of your support that gives our University the ability to impact our community and world by empowering a generation of young minds to accomplish great things for the greater good.

Are you a family member or friend of a present, past or future graduate? You may also donate a brick in honor or remembrance of a member of the Jaguar Nation. Bricks are a great gift for birthdays, anniversaries and graduations!

Where will My Brick be Located?

All bricks will be located in the Smith-Brown Memorial Student Union Courtyard to be renovated by the Division for Student Affairs. The area will be remodeled with the personalized bricks, beautiful flowerbeds, newly installed lamp posts and other landscaping additions. It is our vision that, with your help, this project will lead to the Smith-Brown Memorial Union being the identifier of our campus!
