TRLS Admissions Process

Students may apply for admission to the major at any time after becoming a student at SUBR.  Admission to the Bachelor of Science degree in Therapeutic Recreation and Leisure Studies (TRLS) requires the completion of an application for new majors in the department.

The TRLS application process includes the development of a strategic plan for undergraduates studies, submission of a reflective essay, "Why I chose this profession" and a pre-acknowledgment assessment.  Students in the program must earn a C or better in each TRLS course in the major and must maintain an overall GPA of 2.0 to remain in the program.   Students should make an appointment with Dr. Kathryn Jones 225-771-4573 or email kathryn_jones@subr.edu.

The strategic plan covers an overview of recreation therapy, review of the student's transcript, development of a plan to complete the degree, review of the requirements, specifically 560 hours of internship with a 14-17 week period.
The essay is a one page single spaced paper which should explain why the student is choosing to study recreation therapy.  Resources and websites will be provided to  help students prepare the essay that explores their thoughts, personal experiences, and the reasons that have led them to choose this major.
